Dry cleaning is usually the best way to clean all types of velvet garments (silk velvet & synthetic velvet) maintain texture and softness, prevent color bleeding (especially in deep colors), and protect the fabric base
1. Silk Velvet: Dry cleaning is mandatory to mulberry silk velvet or silk velvet blend.
2. Synthetic Velvet (Polyester, Spandex, Cotton Blend…)
- Hand-wash gently in cold water with mild detergent, avoiding wringing or excessive rubbing.
- Machine-wash following these steps:
• Choose a mild, bleach-free detergent.
• Use a soft-bristled brush to remove dirt and stains.
• Turn garments inside out and place them in a mesh laundry bag.
• Use the delicate cycle with cold water and low spin speed.
• Avoid overloading the machine to prevent flattening the velvet nap.
- Drying:
• Lay flat on a clean surface, away from direct sunlight.
• Do not hang or drape, as this may cause misshaping.
- General care tips:
• Avoid harsh detergents or bleach.
• Never iron velvet directly on velvet, as heat can crush or flatten the nap.
• Iron from the reverse side or place a thin fabric layer on top as a barrier.
• Steam lightly to remove wrinkles and freshen the fabric.
• Store on a padded hanger or lay flat to prevent creases.
• Limit exposure to perfume or hairspray, as they may cause stains.
